Angel & Chanelle of Trin-i-tee 5:7 are Done People-Pleasing
by EEW Magazine Entertainment Editors
Angel Taylor and Chanelle Haynes of Trin-i-tee 5:7 make up an edgy, eclectic duo that sometimes
catches flack for breaking the traditional Gospel mold. But the two ladies, who admit to having once
been overly concerned with others’ views of them, have since developed and grown up a lot.

“We have evolved as women,” the ladies write in a blog for ESSENCE.COM. “We know where we
come from and where we are going. We know that God loves us unconditionally and will continue to
guide our footsteps in this life with or without stardom. “

They are also willing to move forward in what they believe is their divine calling with or without
acceptance from others. “We spent so much of our career trying to please everyone. We wanted
people to like us and accept what we were trying to do,” they share. “We have gone through so much
and fought so hard to get to the place where we love who we are and are happy with who God created
us to be. We are no longer trying to conform to someone else’s idea about who we should be. We
believe that is reflected in our music.”

Instead of wasting energy trying to fit in, Angel and Chanelle have learned to embrace their
uniqueness. “From our performance style to our dress, we don’t try to fit into a certain mold. We like
to go outside the box that so many people try to place gospel singers in. I embrace Diana Ross and
Tina Turner when I go on stage, and Angel embraces her inner Babyface when she hits the notes that
she does. We are quirky, goofy, fun-loving people who enjoy making great music ‘our way,’ which we
believe is ‘God’s way.’”

Their understanding of who they are, according to them, is part of what has helped them remain
successful for 15 years. Through ups and downs and even losing fellow group members, Trin-i-tee 5:
7 has stood the test of time.
