As a black and a woman , it seemed that the odds were particularly stacked
against Dr. Foster. As you might imagine, she is no stranger to rejection,
racism, and sexism, but strives never to let any of it break her spirit.

“I make every attempt not to take it personally,” she tells EEW Magazine. “I know
what it’s like not being selected for projects, to be denied opportunities on
project teams, and rejected due to race and/or sexual prejudices.”

But she’s still rolling with the punches, refusing to allow the setbacks to stop

Today, Dr. Foster’s heart beats for others who desire to succeed in business and entrepreneurship, and through her non-
profit organization called “The Help House,” she’s making a difference. The Help House offers business consulting and
mentoring to aspiring entrepreneurs. It also gives young adults an educational jump start by providing college scholarships.

HER PHILOSOPHY ON DEALING WITH REJECTION

So, what’s her philosophy?

Dr. Foster believes that, when you’re rejected, the key to your business breakthrough is not quitting. “I continue to knock on
doors, bid on projects and make contacts. Persistence is the key,” she shares with EEW Magazine.

But that’s only part of the equation for her. She also knows that divine destiny is an integral part of being successful at
anything. Dr. Foster explains, “I believe that what God has for you, no man can keep from you.”

Though it has been difficult at times to stay encouraged, she reminds herself that God has placed her on this path in order to
fulfill her purpose. This is, in effect, what keeps her going.

“Throughout my years in business I have had to remain steady in my faith in God to sustain the desire and determination to
continue,” she tells EEW Magazine. “What keeps me persisting is, knowing that being an entrepreneur and assisting others in
their endeavors is one of the services God desires for my life. I have a strong belief that God is watching over me and guiding
me in my business pursuits. When I experience rejection, I ask God for direction regarding how to handle the situation and He
has always been faithful to give it to me.”

EEW asked Dr. Foster to share one vital tip with other women entrepreneurs and this is what she had to say: “Allow God to
provide you with His priorities for your life and make a conscious decision to follow them. Refuse to let negative words or
actions from others deter you from your divine purpose and path.”

Dr. Foster is an ENO Transportation Fellow, a King-Chavez-Parks Fellow and has won the Wayne State University Headliner
Award. As a sought-after public speaker, she delivers commencement addresses and keynotes for colleges and other
professional organizations.

steadily growing.

With all of her success, Dr. Foster realizes that her first calling is to her family. She has been
married for 23 years to her husband Michael, and is the devoted mother of two sons. Her
commitment to maintaining balance at home while pursuing her vision is refreshing in a day
when family is no longer deemed a main priority.

To spread the message that one can have both a successful business and a sane, peaceful
family life, Dr. Foster has authored a book entitled, For Love and Money: Seven Guidelines for
Achieving Success in Your Home and Business (Winepress/Pleasant Word). The book is due
to be released in February 2008.
