EEW Magazine’s 12 Irrefutable Laws of Business Success (Continued)

Law #7 Don’t Give Everything Away
Do not devalue your skills and abilities by giving your products or services away in the name of building rapport. You may do a few pro
bono assignments, or distribute some freebies to build up your consumer base. However, this must never become a habitual
tendency. You cannot increase respect, revenue, or reputability, if you don’t believe what you have to offer is worth paying for.

Here’s another tip: If it’s not worth giving away, don’t do that either. If you gain a reputation for giving “free gifts” that aren’t worth
anything anyway, this can hurt your credibility also.

Law #8 Know your Industry
The best entrepreneur is a knowledgeable entrepreneur. In order to convince prospects to trust you there must be a conveyance on
your part of thorough knowledge. This knowledge applies—not just to your product, but also general information about your specific
industry. Think about it. Would you want a surgeon operating on you that fails to keep up with the latest research in his or her field?
Neither would I.

You need to know: Who are your competitors? What are they doing well? What are industry best practices? What are the latest
advancements in your field? Become a specialist, a business black belt of sorts. If you don’t, you will not be able to consistently
convert prospects into patrons.

Law #9 Be Original
God made you unique. Make sure your business reflects that. Just because no one else is implementing the idea you have doesn’t
make it a flawed idea. Conversely, just because seemingly everyone IS doing something doesn’t make it a good idea either. Although
you want to be aware of what competitors are doing, strive not to be an imitator. Rather, be innovative, creative, cutting-edge, and
always relevant. Surely, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel for everything. Nevertheless, you should be able to come up with some
original ideas. Playing copycat can only get you so far.

Law #10 Plan your Work. Work your Plan
Strategic planning is not just jargon. It is an essential part of devising solid business strategies that get results. Think of it as a map
sketch. In the planning phase, you spend time determining where you are, in relation to where you want to be. Then you can decide
on the best route to get you there. Once you have created a workable plan, simply work it. Be sure to give your plan ample time to
prove its effectiveness. Don’t expect success overnight. And only modify your plan when necessary.

Law #11 Learn
When is the last time you read a good business book? Have you done any in-depth studies of the great minds of your time? You may
have heard the expression, “Leaders are readers.” It’s true. You are the sum total of the most prominent influences in your life. If you
want to advance beyond where you are, pick up a good book. Invest in a reputable training program. Live vicariously through the
experiences of successful entrepreneurs in your industry. It pays off in the long run. What you learn and internalize today will manifest
in your level of productivity tomorrow. If you learn little you will have little productivity. If you learn much you will have much productivity.

Law #12 Run a Purpose-Driven Business
If you’re only thinking of your bottom line you’re thinking too low. In the Kingdom of God our values must reflect His. If making money is
the be all and end all of everything you will inevitably compromise your standards, because money will rule you. But if your business
is driven by your purpose, you’ll strive to fulfill that first. As you walk out the steps God has designed for you, He will give you provision
to get the job done.

And those, my friend, are my 12 irrefutable laws of small business success. May you be empowered to prosper!
