OFFICIAL EEW MAGAZINE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD RULES
Author Eligibility Criteria: All books considered must be written by one first-time author who is female, African
American, and Christian. Judging is based on literary merit, not sales, prior media coverage, or publisher.
Author must be a U.S. citizen and all books must be published in the U.S. during the eligibility year (within the
past 9-12 months). NOTE: Works written by multiple authors will not be accepted.
Genre: Full-length books of fiction and general nonfiction are eligible. Books that feature collections of short
stories, essays, and poems, by (1) one author, are eligible.
E-Books: E-books are NOT considered eligible for EEW Magazine’s National Best Book of the Year Award
unless released in conjunction with a traditionally published book. Each E-Book submission must include:
information detailing where the book is available for download (or a disc / cd copy of the book) and a printed
and bound, 8 1/2 x 11 inch copy of the book, including publication date information. E-books not submitted
with both availability information and a printed copy will not be considered.
Eligibility Disputes: In the event of a disagreement on terms of eligibility, EEW Magazine’s Nominations
Committee will decide whether to consider the published work for an award, and the final decision will stand.
Submission Deadlines: EEW Magazine receives hundreds of submissions so publishers and authors are
urged to submit books AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Any author/publisher may enter books for consideration
between now and August 31, 2011. If Nominations Committee receives a book later than August 31, 2011, it
will be automatically deemed ineligible. A book may be submitted as a finished copy, if available. A proof,
bound galley, and bound manuscript are also acceptable provided the book will be available in finished
format by September 1, 2011.
Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for any title submitted.
Entry Form: The electronic entry form available at http://www.eewmagazine.com/BestBookAward is required to
participate in the awards process. Submission of the form means the author is giving EEW Magazine consent
to consider her book for EEW Magazine’s National “Best Book of the Year Book” Award.

IMPORTANT: Publisher and author agree that the decision of the EEW Magazine and/or Nominations Committee will be
final as to all matters, including eligibility, timeliness of submissions, and compliance with these Entry Rules and the
Awards.
EEW Magazine shall have the permanent right in any and all media throughout the world to use and exploit all radio,
television, merchandising, promotional, and publicity rights that publisher and author may have in connection with their
participation in the EEW Magazine Best Book of the Year Award competition without further consent or payment. Publisher
and author also release any claim either might have by virtue of their respective participation in the EEW Magazine Book
Best Book Award competition, for use of their respective photographs, names, likenesses, voice, or appearances in
connection with the EEW Magazine Best Book of the Year Award; and each consents to the permanent right of EEW
Magazine to publish or broadcast the author's acceptance quote without further consent or payment.
