2 Corinthians 7:1 reads, “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
Just by reading that verse, we can surmise that cleanliness and holiness are a part of the divine order
and will of God. So it stands to reason that it is a good thing to keep our physical surroundings clean
and organized.
This is what so impressed EEW Magazine about one of gospel music’s biggest stars, CeCe Winans, and
her focus on order. In late December, the international singing sensation and Founder of Always
Sisters Forever Brothers (ASFB) national youth conference, spoke up, via Twitter, about her
intentions to get things in order for 2012.
Winans tweeted, “[I’m] about to start clearing closets, drawers, and cabinets in an effort to start the
year off right!” On the December 28 she said, “I'm still trying to accomplish order! Clearing and
cleaning. I will get it all done. 2012 will be a year of divine order!”
Clearing the clutter away, putting things in their proper place, and getting rid of dirt and grime, make
our homes a perfect dwelling place for God. This is an idea Award-winning author and EEW Magazine
columnist Dr. Deana Murphy fleshes out in her book, Designing for the King. Dr. Murphy gives tips
for setting your house in order and interior design strategies to create a serene and beautiful
environment that reflects holiness.
As you start your year out, straighten your house out as well. Honor God by being a good steward
over the home He has given you. Beautify it. De-clutter it. And let it be a reflection of the Godly
person that inhabits it.
Your physical home should be a reflection of the condition of your spiritual home.
Do you need to get your house in order?
If so, create a plan and stick to it, so you can honor God through cleanliness, order, and discipline.

Ever heard this saying?
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness.”
Some people think it is found in the Bible, but it
is not. Still, there is some truth contained in the
popular saying.
