CONNECT WITH THE Editor In Chief:
o one is waiting anymore. That's what secular
"experts" would like you to believe. They say
that abstinence doesn't work. In fact,
abstinence education programs across the US
are at risk of losing funding during the current
health-care reform legislation pending in the
Senate that includes $50 million in aid.
That doesn't bode well for proponents of government funded
abstinence programs. But still, it's not earth-shattering news if you
believe what I believe:
Purity begins in the home. The environment
you create, what you allow to infiltrate those four walls, and the
behaviors you model, are the three most important areas to consider
when working to raise virgins.

How do I know? I was a virgin when I got married 12 years ago.
Today, my husband and I are the blissfully happy parents of 4
children. Now that I have a family of my own, I'm able to look
back on the things my parents did that worked for me and
implement them with my own children.

Looking retrospectively, I know that my parents worked hard to
create a home environment conducive to their goals for me and my

siblings. For instance, when I was
coming up, I wasn't allowed to just
watch or listen to any old thing I
wanted. There were some clear
boundaries. I didn't have a crew of
friends I could run with freely. My
parents were very plugged in, which is
something I try to be with my own
children.

Now remember, when it comes to
raising virgins, I'm speaking from the
perspective of a
daughter who was
successfully raised to be pure by two
Godly parents. If my folks could do it
with me, I believe that you and I, with
the help of the Lord, can replicate it in
our children as well; but it takes
diligence.

You see, we live in a society that is
over-sexed. Everywhere you go, it's
impossible to escape the sexual
innuendo and the glorification of
whatever is scandalous, salacious, and
seductive.

Topless and sometimes naked women
are all over the covers of mainstream
magazines. Television shows and
movies depicting adultery, fornication,
threesomes, and homosexuality are
fastly becoming the norm. Kids are
losing their innocence left and right.
This became abundantly clear as I sat
across the table from a 21 year old,
evening after attending an event. To
protect her identity, I won't her name,
but, for years I've working hard to
help this young woman remain

I ask myself over and over, "Lord
what can I do? What can I say to
help?" But then, the Lord spoke to my
heart and let me know that this fiercely
independent fun-seeker comes from a
broken home where she's seen far too
much in her young life: Her parents'
own rocky relationship, where her
father, a Deacon and organist,
constantly ran out on her mom, until
by the poisonous "I want to be a
celebrity" bug that plagues so many of
our youth these days. Often, it seems
like I'm fighting a losing battle with
her. Though she's an attractive girl

they divorced. Her mother, who is a
singer and missionary, struggling with
alcoholism, who is also emotionally
aloof and distant. Couple that with the
unhealthy amount of freedom she had
prematurely, because mom and dad
weren't plugged in, and that's how you
get a gorgeous, church girl, who
happens to be promiscuous. Moms,
we've got to plug into our kids.
Raising virgins starts with us.
