Twitter and Quit Her
At the encouragement of my husband Kenya, I took the
plunge and opened a Twitter account a few weeks
ago.
Hated it.
So, I discontinued my Twitter account and reopened it
3 times in 5 days. I don't know what it is that turned me
off about it. Perhaps it was having to use the @

symbol every time I wanted to mention someone (that annoyed me to no end); or it
could have been the fact that I had to try to figure out who to "follow" on Twitter (that
drove me nuts); or maybe I just couldn't take anymore of the serious brain drain I
went through trying to figure out what in the world to say in 140 characters (that was
just hard). I do, however, appreciate those who did their best to encourage me, but
it was literally overwhelming me. So, I'm off Twitter... for good and I mean it. I think.
Or maybe I don't.
But even though I Twitter(ed) and Quit Her all in the same week, I did open up a
Facebook account that's still alive and well. Unlike my experience with tweeting, I
immediately fell in love with chatting on Facebook. I have the best conversations
with EEW readers, friends, family and lots of new people I'm meeting for the first
time. The discussions make me laugh, challenge me, enlighten me, and above all,
enrich me.
The whole social networking process has been a great learning experience for me.
It has reinforced a lesson I often share, which is, stay true to your own convictions.
Just because something works for others, doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for
you. I guess we all have to know our limitations, strengths and weaknesses.
Twitter is where I draw the line.
God made us all unique. Some of us are tweeters. Some of us are not. Of course I
fall squarely into the not category... at least for now. I must admit, there is an upside
to all of it though. You see, during my short stay in Twitter-ville, I connected with a
few great people that helped EEW's first ever "Men's Issue" take shape.
Perhaps, my brief stint on Twitter had purpose after all. If nothing else, it gave me
the opportunity to impact at least a few people I may have never touched and vice
versa.
Prayerfully, you'll also be touched in some way as you read the stories, interviews
and features in the September/October 2009 issue of EEW Magazine. Kick back,
relax and enjoy.
TYE TRIBBETT, the energetic, Grammy Award-winning
recording artist, sits down for a candid one-on-one
exclusive with EEW Magazine where he discusses
finding balance between ministry and marriage,
being Daddy to two daughters, and the reason why he
just says NO to secular music.
If you want to learn a few things about Tye Tribbett that
you NEVER knew, you've got to read his interview with
EEW's Founder and Editor-In-Chief, Dianna Hobbs.
