Her husband could not speak to her and confirm
what God had shown him. Nor, could he offer her
words of encouragement.  She simply had to believe
what she was told.  As her body changed, she shut
out the crowds—just in case things went wrong.
Faith cannot be based on natural circumstances,
because situations are subject to change.  We must
simply take Him at His word.  While we entreat Him
for signs, the reality is that when they come, doubt
will try to rationally explain them away.  When you
get a word from the Word—just believe!

2. Protect Your Vision:  Once you have your
word, find the place to keep your vision and heart
safe.  Mary believed and knowing what was ahead,
she left home to visit Elizabeth.  She only knew of
one person who could understand what she was
about to experience.  Leaving the comfort zone of
home, she went to the person and place she needed
for the support to face the difficult season ahead.

Carrying a vision requires change and it will change
you.  Be sensitive to your environment and
surround yourself with people who can help you and
most importantly, who believe!

3. Stir it Up: When Mary greeted Elizabeth, the
vision was stirred.  It is up to you to keep yourself
around people who inspire you to action.  They see
what God sees in you.  You don’t have to convince
them of your vision’s viability.  When you find your
Elizabeth or Mary, you will know it.  The
relationship may last a lifetime or it may even be
seasonal.  Just enjoy what it brings to your life.  The
evidence of God’s presence is growth.  If
relationships don’t challenge us to maturity, it may
be time to reprioritize!

Live It!  Identify who stirs your vision over the
coming week.  While every conversation doesn’t
need to set you on fire, when you are around the
right people you are inspired to be more, do more
and become more Christlike.  Take a critical look at
your closest relationships and ask yourself:  Does
he/she encourage me to stretch and change? How
does he/she help me fulfill my dreams? How do I
help him/her fulfill their dreams?  Are we inspiring
each other to growth and good works?

If your closest relationships don’t stir your vision, it
is time to make some changes.  Change may be hard
to face but I once heard it said…God’s work done
God’s way, never lacks His supply.
Mary and Elizabeth—on the outside, they must have
made a peculiar pair.  One was a teenager, rich and
ripe with the milk of youth.  The other an elderly
woman, grayed and withered after many seasons of
disappointment.  You wouldn’t expect them to form
a clique, but the hand of God drew them together
(please read Luke 1:39-56).

Despite their many differences, the similarities of
their circumstances and shame forged a deep bond
of connection.  Unwed and expecting, Mary’s
condition would become a source of disgrace to her
family and fiancée when she returned home.
Humiliation had already taken its toll on Elizabeth
who endured infertility in a time when a woman’s
worth was measured by the productivity of her
womb.  If children were the measure, she had
nothing to show for her life!

These women found themselves in unexpected
conditions.  Untouched by a man, Mary didn’t know
that pleasure, yet she was destined to experience the
pain of childbirth.  Elizabeth had put her prayers
aside after years of seeking God for a child.  Her
miracle was long overdue and now the vision was
making demands on a body that had ceased to be
able to sustain it.

But God didn’t get the memo that natural
circumstance disqualified them from becoming
mothers!  When He was ready to fulfill His word…He
moved!  Today, I want to encourage you to not lose
heart.  God has not forgotten you and in His
appointed time…your change will come!  Outwardly,
it may appear that nothing is happening, but a living
seed of promise resides within you.

We may all be at different stages of manifestation
and awareness, but God has planted something in all
of us.  In some cases, it is too early to even tell what
He is doing.  The only sign is a yearning for change
and the sense that there’s something “more” ahead
of you.  In other cases, the wait has been so long that
you are numb with disappointment and unbelief.

In my own life, lately, I’ve felt like Mary.  God has
presented me with some unexpected opportunities,
but they have come with a price.  Yet, I still struggle
like Elizabeth as I face seemingly unmovable
mountains and barrenness in my love life and
ministry.  It is only His grace that keeps me from
riding an emotional roller coaster of expectation and
pain.

Yet, regardless of our place in the process, the bond
these women shared provides us with valuable
insights on protecting our vision and maintaining
our faith until God is ready move!  Let’s take a look:

1. Just Believe:  Elizabeth waited for a child so
long that she was afraid to believe that the very thing
she wanted had finally come.  The Bible says she hid
herself for the first five months of her pregnancy.
While only Elizabeth could tell us exactly what she
endured, I imagine that even though she saw the
changes in her physical body; she was still worried
that it wasn’t real. Like many of us, she probably
restrained her joy in expectation of more
disappointment.
