When black CNN news anchor, Don
Lemon, came out as gay recently, it was big
news. But, EEW Magazine didn't cover it,
simply because Lemon does not claim to
be a follower of Jesus Christ, though he
does admit to believing in a "higher
power."  A non-Christian  choosing to
indulge in sinful behaviors is not news. It's
normal.

So why talk about it now? Well, since
breaking the news of his closeted gay
lifestyle, Lemon is beginning to leave a
sour taste in our mouths by attempting to
discredit the validity of scripture. Via
CNN's religion blog, the media personality,
who admits to being molested by a
pedophile when he was a kid, is saying the

Naïve & Dangerous

holy scriptures are nothing more than metaphors. Lemon explains his perception of scripture this
way:

"As I got older...I had a sort of epiphany: the Bible was about the lessons you learned, not
    about the events or words.

When I became old enough, intelligent enough and logical enough to discern the difference
between metaphor and reality, everything changed. I realized that Jonah living in the belly
of a whale was a parable written in the same vein as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. saying
that he had 'been to the mountaintop.'

Neither Jonah nor King had actually been to those places. They were metaphors for
lessons for those of us who cared to absorb them.

So many of us, especially in the black community and in churches, tend to think that
religious teachings happened word for word as they were written in Scripture. I think
    that's naïve, even dangerous."

Wow.

So then, according to Mr. Lemon, believers who embrace 2 Timothy 3:16 must be unintelligent,
illogical, and naïve. The Bible says, "All Scripture is inspired by God..." and the words happen to
matter-
a lot.

The Bible is not merely a collection of stories, like fairy tales, that teach morals. But, since Lemon
is attempting to justify a lifestyle that is diametrically opposed to what God outlines in his word, it
stands to reason that he desperately needs to discredit the holy scriptures to make him feel at ease
with his choice to live as a gay man.

Lemon also says, "It's time for us, especially black people, to stop trying to pray the gay away and
to get on our knees and start praying that the discrimination of gay people ends. What we're doing
to our young gay people now is child abuse. It's plain old bigotry and hatred. And if African-
Americans don't know what that feels like in America, I don't know who does."

While EEW Magazine believes all people are entitled to equal rights and fair treatment, that does
not mean we agree with, or endorse the homosexual lifestyle. The Bible teaches us to love all
people, whether gay, straight, black, white, male, female, Christian, or non-Christian. To do
anything else is unethical and sinful. And yet, love does not mean pretending that sin is alright.

Christians must understand that showing love
does not mean failing to speak out against something
that is clearly wrong. And homosexuality, no matter how many people choose to live that way-yes,
it is a choice-is wrong.
