Finding Joy In the Midst of Trials: You Can Have It through Jesus Christ
Live the Empowered Life: Coach Felicia Scott
3. Comfort—He has the power to take the
heaviness from your heart and the pressures
from your soul.  Your job is to stop wrestling
and trying to figure things out.  Simply open
your heart and hands and tell Him, “I trust you
to be with me through this.  I trust you to keep
your Word.  I need you.”  Then let the tears and
the burdens fall and just receive the comfort
that is yours.  Don’t hold back the tears; let
them fall while you fall into the arms of His
grace.

4.
Direction—Being lost feels miserable. One
of the most heart-wrenching sights in the world
is the face of a child who can’t find or see the
person they are relying on.
One Sunday in Walmart, my nephew asked if he could go to the toy section.  He was ten years old,
so my mother trusted him to go alone while we checked out at the front of the store.

When we finished, we realized that he hadn’t returned.  We waited for a few minutes and as I was
about to go look for him, we saw him speed past the aisles with tears streaming down his face.  We
called out to him, but he didn’t hear us. I am convinced that he was so afraid that he’d been left,
that he couldn’t see that we were right there in front of him.  Finally, he heard us and the tears
ceased to fall.  Like my nephew, fear may have you in a panic, but God hasn’t moved.  Just as we
stood at the front of the store waiting for my nephew and ready to go get him, if necessary, God is
waiting for you. He will come get you.

5.
Abundant Life—He came that we might have abundant life.  Our lives are to be fruitful and
productive.  The season you are in is just one of pruning. You are being pruned so that your life
can bear an even greater witness to His transformative power, love and faithfulness.  The act of
pruning can seem harsh, but any horticulturalist can tell you that the best comes forward when
dead things are removed.  It may look like everything you’ve hoped for and wanted hangs in the
balance.  Please know that more than you ever imagined awaits you around the corner.

Live It! Take a moment today and count it all joy!  You can overcome and thrive in any situation,
when you take the time to take inventory and remind yourself what Jesus offers You!
How could I find joy when I can’t fix some important things for the people I love? How can I find
joy when there is still so much I haven’t done and achieved with my life?  How can I find joy when
money starts acting funny, as they say?  I soon realized that I wasn’t being asked to work myself
into an emotional state of happiness.  Rather, the writer was saying examine your life and in every
situation discover what Jesus offers You! That is how we experience true joy in the midst of trials.

You probably know this already, but you may need reminding (as I did) that Jesus offers:

1.
Peace—He promised to give us a peace that surpasses our understanding.  His peace is not
predicated on our circumstance.  It is illogical to the natural man because it is independent of the
human senses. It is based on seeing with faith.  Peace is experienced when we focus on God’s
sovereignty.  Regardless of how overwhelmed you may be emotionally at this moment, take a deep
breath—God’s authority, position and relationship to your problem has not changed.  He is still
seated on His throne and ready to use the power of His position to change your situation.  Just ask
and believe!

2.
Friendship—He is the friend who sticks closer than any brother.  Wherever you are, He is
there.  You are not in this alone.  He is right there with you as you dig your way out of tons of debt.
He is there as the doctor’s reports appear to be going from bad to worse.  He is there as you get
turned down for the job—again!  He is “with” you.  He is Immanuel, “God with us.”  He is the God
who never leaves nor forsakes us.  He is bearing the burden for you.  His wisdom is yours for the
asking.  His power to heal and to do miracles is accessible to you too!  Despite how alone you may
feel at this very moment, you have a friend!  The part you have is the part you can handle; He has
already addressed the rest. My friend, you are more than able to make it through this test.

Right now, there is so much transition going
on around me that I find it challenging to
quiet the things in me so that I can hear from
the Father.  My Blackberry is filled with
things to do and I’m showing up in meetings
about the future, when I am still trying to
find out what is happening in my present.

Yesterday, I struggled to get out of bed to
face my day.  I just didn’t have the energy or
the desire to do anything but escape from my
realities.  I actually considered closing
myself off from the world, but too much
needed to be done, so I had to muster up the
strength to just do it.  The day got better, but
the overcast in my emotions remained.  But a
ray of light broke through with the arrival of
an e-mail devotional based on James 1:2-4,
with the command to
count it ALL joy!

My initial reaction was a heartfelt, “Are you
kidding me?”
